Courtney Paulk Profiled Among Virginia Business Women in Leadership

As an honoree in the 2023 Women in Leadership Awards by Virginia Business, Courtney Paulk was profiled in the July 2023 issue for her accomplishments in the courtroom, in law firm leadership and in open waters. Paulk was among 37 exceptional leaders selected from 320 nominations this year.

“Not only is Courtney Moates Paulk the first woman president of Hirschler law firm and ranked among the top construction lawyers in Virginia, but she is a record-setting ultra-distance, open-water marathon swimmer,” Virginia Business said.

In addition to leading the more than 90 attorneys across Hirschler’s footprint and her defense of clients in high stakes litigation (often into the tens of millions of dollars), Paulk has achieved unparalleled athletic feats in the water. In 2021, she became the first person to complete a two-way crossing of the English Channel, a two-way crossing of the Catalina Channel, and a double circumnavigation of Manhattan – known as the Double Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.

“To do great things, you have to be willing to take a risk,” Paulk said. “Without risk, there can be no success and no failure.”
