Hirschler Fleischer Promotes Two; Adds Six.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Richmond, Va., January 3, 2003 -- Hirschler Fleischer announced today that Thomas D. "Dan" Applewhite and Gina M. Burgin have been promoted to become members of the firm and Deborah Schwager Froling has joined the firm as a member. All three are located in the Richmond office. "Dan, Gina and Deborah are tremendous assets to our community and our profession," said James W. Theobald, president of Hirschler Fleischer. "We are honored to welcome them into their new roles within the firm and know that our clients will continue to appreciate the vast experience and innovation they bring to the firm."

Additionally, Charles E. Marr, J.M. Ramey, III, Rhoda L. Raymond and Katharine A. Schkloven have joined the firm as associates in the Richmond office. "We are pleased to welcome these talented individuals," said Michael H. Terry, executive vice president. "We look forward to 2003 and to building on our firm’s commitment to expand and grow a diversified practice in service to our clients, which has enabled us to continue to grow despite the slowdown in certain sectors of the economy."

Thomas D. Applewhite is a member of the firm’s business section, where he represents securities broker-dealers, investment advisers, financial planners, banks, registered investment companies, hedge funds, investment industry trade associations, franchisors, franchisees, and companies in public and private securities offerings and other corporate matters. He has worked in conjunction with or for the SCC, the SEC and the NASD. Additionally, Dan serves on the Board of Arbitrators of the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc., the largest securities industry, self-regulatory organization in the United States. Dan received his B.S. from Randolph-Macon College where he was a Randolph-Macon Award Scholar and he received his J.D. from Mercer University where he was a member of the law review and the moot court board.

Gina M. Burgin is an attorney specializing in real estate transactions, finance and development matters. Her practice includes documenting and closing commercial real estate transactions, representing clients in acquiring sites throughout the country and assisting with the negotiation, construction, financing and leasing of various real estate projects. Additionally, Gina also represents clients in environmental matters including evaluating environmental assessments of property on behalf of clients completing due diligence investigations and advising clients on potential environmental risks and mitigation. Gina received her B.A. from George Washington University and her J.D. from The Catholic University of America.

Charles E. Marr joins the firm’s litigation section. His practice focuses on a variety of civil and commercial actions, with an emphasis on commercial and contract disputes. He received a B.A., with distinction, from the Virginia Military Institute in economics and business in 1999, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2002. He was admitted to practice in Virginia in 2002.

J.M. Ramey, III focuses on federal and state taxation and general business law including entity formation, mergers and acquisitions, and other business transactions and joins the firm’s business section. Prior to joining Hirschler Fleischer, he was an associate with LeClair Ryan in Richmond, Virginia. He received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Virginia, and a J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1996. He was admitted to practice in Virginia in 1996.

Rhoda L. Raymond joins the firm’s real estate section where her practice will focus on general and commercial real estate transactions. Prior to joining Hirschler Fleischer, Rhoda worked as a Geographic Information Systems Analyst with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. She received a B.S. and a M.A. in Geography from Appalachian State University, and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Regent University in 2002. Rhoda was admitted to practice in Virginia in 2002.

Katharine A. Schkloven joins the firm’s business section Her practice will focus on corporate and securities work, tax issues and venture capital and private equity funds. She received a B.B.A. with a concentration in international business from Loyola College, and a J.D., with honors, from Duke University School of Law in 2002, and was admitted to practice in Virginia in 2002.
